2005 US Open Event Diary
Round 1
I was drawn against the local up and coming youngster, Anna Kostanian,
which turned out to be a cracker of a match.
After leading 6-3, I found myself 8-6 down. Anna kept running out from
everywhere. As she was a local player, I knew I would be up against the
partisan crowd. I was right, there were cheers not only for Anna's
great play, but for my missed shots. I took it on the chin ofcourse.
Infact, I think it might have put her under more pressure.
Knowing that the last rack is usually the hardest to win, I
just waited for any opportunity that might come my way.
I pulled it back to 8-8 and it was my experience that won me the match.
Round 2
Now for my friend Ramona Biddle.
It was a scrappy match which I won 9-4. We both missed chances, but I
suppose I missed the least.
Round 3
A toughy. karen Corr. I was ready for a long battle, and a battle it
was. (I think we had a shot clock after 4 racks) I played my best
pool of the competition in this match. I ran out when I had a chance
and we had some great bouts of safety. I felt totally in control. I got
on the hill first but of course it is a race to 9 not 8. I don't
remember having a clear cut opportunity to close out the match and I
ended up losing 9-8.
Although I lost, I enjoyed the match. I was very pleased with the way I
played. Karen won the match, I didn't lose it.
I now faced Kelly Fisher in the losers side.
After my match with Karen I
felt really good but I made two crucial mistakes which cost me two
racks. I missed a very easy 9 ball, which I just took for granted, and
a relatively easy combination from 7 to 9. These two shots cost me any
chance winning. Kelly won 9-5.
Again I was pleased with my overall play. I am still not playing 100%
but I am well on the way.
See you at the Nationals in November.
